Public Comment Period

We welcome communication from the public. This set of guidelines is intended to provide structure to public comment periods during our monthly Library Board meetings. Library trustees and library staff may also be reached by email or by setting up an appointment to discuss concerns.

Guidelines

  • Public comment shall be held at our monthly Library Board Meetings on the first Tuesday of each month, not to exceed 14 minutes total unless additional time is made available at the discretion of the Board President. The public shall not speak during other items of business unless invited to do so.
  • Members of the public who attend Library Board Meetings should be mindful of the official nature of the proceedings and demonstrate professionalism and respect to others. Loud outbursts, demonstrations, or heckling will not be tolerated. Use of signs or activities determined by the President to be disruptive or disrespectful are prohibited.
  • Public comment shall be limited to two minutes per individual. Priority shall be given to residents of residents within our service area of the Village of Somerset, the Towns of Somerset, St. Joseph and Star Prairie.
  • Public comment shall be limited to topics included on the current meeting agenda. Members of the public who wish to speak on a topic not on the agenda are encouraged to contact the Library Director or Library Board President.
  • Citizens who wish to speak during the public comment period shall sign in and provide their name, address, and the agenda item they wish to speak on.
